As a precocious 9-year-old, Country Basket Garden Centre owner Paul Bongers saw an opportunity to make a little extra pocket money when his family's modest vegetable patch yielded an extremely bountiful harvest.
He set up shop on a picnic table on the side of Lundy's Lane, and got to work selling the extra vegetables his family had grown.
Little did he know, as he sold those first zucchinis and peppers, that he'd still be at it today, running the award-winning Country Basket Garden Centre in the heart of Niagara.
Though Paul, along with his wife Pam, have shifted focus from fruits and vegetables to home hobby gardening, the original focus on quality products and great customer service remains.
